Description & Technique

Silence of the Lambs original, hand cut artwork. This is Acherontia atropos AKA The Death-Head Hawk Moth. Hand cut from pages 272 and 273 of Thomas Harris' novel Silence of the Lambs. These are the pages in which FBI agent Clarice Starling comes face to face with Buffalo Bill. He is given away by a death-head moth crawling from the folds of his robe.

Cut out letters spell "Acherontia atropos".

Moth is pinned with a glass headed pin.

The book pages have been stiched onto onto a giclee printed background. This technique allows the artwork to be free from the background, providing life, depth and shadow.
