Description & Technique

The Wasp Factory original handcut artwork. 10 hours+ in the making. Constructed from pages 110, 117, 112, and 127 of Iain Bank's debut novel The Wasp Factory.

I have used letters from the page to create opening line from Iain Banks' debut novel. This line is positioned below the page. The line is:

"I had been making the rounds of the Sacrifice Poles the day we heard my brother had escaped. "

The papercut is attached to the black background using a combination of glueing and hand stitching. This technique allows the artwork to be free from the background, providing life, depth and shadow.

The box frame has a 20cm gap between the artwork and the glass. This allows the artwork to be a three dimensional piece as several sections of the artwork are raised from the surface.

Dimensions

Artwork is 330mm x 470mm out of the frame.
In the frame, the artwork is 350mm 490mm
