Description & Technique

The Hobbit - Smaug and the lonely mountain. Hand cut from pages 226, 227, 229 and 232 - all from the chapter Fire and Water.

This is my interpretation of Smaug dominating the Lonely Mountain.

I have used letters from the page to create Tolkien's line: "The world is not in your books and maps, it's out there." A great line for inspiring wordly adventures!

Hand cut.

The papercut is hand stitched to the black background. This technique allows the artwork to be free from the background, providing life, depth and shadow.

The box frame has a 20mm gap between the artwork and the glass. This allows the artwork to be a three dimensional piece as several sections of the artwork are raised from the surface.

Dimensions

Artwork is 330mm x 470mm
In the frame 490mm x 350mm x 35mm
Cut from 4 book pages.
